New Development on Land at Balcombe House Gardens and Rectory Gardens on Haywards Heath Road

New Development on Land at Balcombe House Gardens and Rectory Gardens on Haywards Heath Road

Shanly Homes have opened a consultation on their initial plans to build 17 homes on Balcombe House Gardens and Rectory Gardens on Haywards Heath Road.  We invite you to view and comment on their current plan.

Village residents will remember that the Balcombe Neighbourhood Plan , which was ‘made’ in 2016, village identified the following for this site:

·       Approximately 14 dwellings on land at Balcombe House Gardens and Rectory Gardens on Haywards Heath Road adjoining the village centre, comprising a mix of 1, 2 and 3 bedroom dwellings, provided the scheme comprises proposals for:

·       the provision of a public car park of 10 spaces;

·       the retention and improvement of the existing tree-lined frontage to Haywards Heath Road;

·       it can be demonstrated that they will sustain or enhance the significance of the setting to both the Grade II listed Balcombe House and the Balcombe Conservation Area heritage assets by using the existing woodland setting;

see page 23 of the Neighbourhood Plan.

You can read our full plan at  https://www.midsussex.gov.uk/media/2752/balcombe-neighbourhood-plan-september-2016.pdf

 The Neighbourhood Plan working group of the Balcombe Parish Council have discussed this plan with Shanly Homes and noted a different housing mix of 5 x 1 & 2  bedroom apartments, 7x 3 bedroom houses, and 5x 4 bedroom houses. While a public car park is included in the eastern part of the site, its access passes by several houses, and could be better separated.
