Network Rail Crossing at Kemps Farm

At a recent meeting between Balcombe Parish Council and Network Rail the dangerous elements of the current crossing of the footpath over the railway at Kemps Farm were discusssed and the opportunity to divert to a safer route was broached.   In recent years there has been one fatality (1975) and three near misses.   Network Rail would like to divert the crossing a quarter of a mile to the south where an existing tunnel could provide a safer route.    They are currently in negotiations with the landowner to progress this proposal.   Current legislation prohibits the closure of such a footpath until  such a time  as an alternative is provided.

Please see below for a letter from Balcombe Parish Council to Network Rail following the meeting.
